Borussia Dortmund‘s Marco Reus is set to miss Champions League game against AS Monaco due to muscle tear. This is not the first time Reus is ruled out of big game because of fitness issues. The player missed whole Football Cup 2014 due to injury in Brazil. He is likely not to play against French side Monaco in next week’s Champions League round of 16 game. Borussia Dortmund thrashed Bayer Leverkusen in Bundesliga game, but paid price in form in injury.
Marco Reus To Miss Champions League Game Against Monaco
Sporting Director of Borussia Dortmund Michael Zorc said “It is probably a muscle rupture”.
Club manager Thomas Tuchel said “This is sad news, he’s been playing at a high level for weeks. That is a huge loss for us that definitely blurs this victory.”
The club is waiting for the final medical report of Reus so it is not clear how much time Reus will take to get back into action.
With recent win against Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund are at third spot with 43 points in Bundesliga standings. Defending Champions Bayern Munich are seven points clear with second spot RB Leipzig.
BVB are trailing with a goal against Benfica and need to win by at-least two goal margins in return leg at Signal Iduna Park. The return leg of Champions League round of 16 is scheduled for 8th March.
Dortmund claimed great win of 6-0 against Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen at their home ground Signal Iduna Park. Dembele opened up the scoring in 6th minute. Aubameyang scored two goals with each goal from Pulisic, Schurrle and Guerreiro. Bayer’s Volland and Wendell also netted one goal each.
